Enlighten Us, But Make It Quick!

The 40Below Public Arts Task Force (PATF) will be hosting its third Ignite Syracuse event on Monday, March 8th, starting at 6:30pm at Bull and Bear pub in Hanover Square. It is part of a national phenomenon sweeping across major cities around the county. So what is Ignite Syracuse? It’s an evening of short talks with some special rules. In “Ignite” each speaker gets 5 minutes - but must have 20 slides and each slide must automatically progress in 15 seconds. This makes for fun and exciting presentations ranging from just about any topic the speaker can think of. Besides for that, it is just a fun evening to get together with friends, have some drinks, meet new people, and hear some creative ideas that are floating around Syracuse.

Right now the PATF is accepting presentation ideas. Anything is acceptable; all bets are off. So feel free to throw your hat in the ring to be a presenter at the next Ignite Syracuse event. The first 10 presenters will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis. Interested parties have until February 20th to submit this presentation ideas. If interested, please contact Maarten Jacobs, chair of the PATF, at 315-480-7678 or via e-mail at ignitesyracuse@gmail.com. And if you plan on presenting, remember: 300 seconds is super short, so be precise, but please, remember that it is ok to breathe; there is no law that says you must fill every second with talking.

Past Ignite Syracuse events have been very successful. The first was held at Opus Bar and Lounge and featured 10 presenters and over 60 audience members. Presentations ranged from someone rapping to potatoes to someone talking about their idea of creating an urban arts and crafts market. In fact, the latter idea, thanks to their presentation, turned into a successful event in October featuring more than 30 artists, with roughly a thousand visitors checking out the market.

So come check out a crazy night of fun-loving banter, intelligent arts, and creative eye-candy. To learn more and to see pictures from past Ignite Syracuse events, check out the blog at ignitesyracuse.blogspot.com
